Schedule Updates

Hi, everyone…

Many of you have been asking about the Seattle Rock’n Roll Marathon and our plans for training.  Here are the answers to some of your questions…
When will training start?
Our first group practice will be on Saturday, March 21st.  I’ll be sending out the training schedules the last week of February.  The schedules will start the week of March 9th which will enable you to complete a full 16 weeks of training for the race.  We have also decided to resume weekly Saturday morning practices vs. our every other week schedule that we’ve had for our past spring events.
How much will it cost?
The marathon is giving us a $10 discount on entry fees for team members entering the race by March 1st.  (This means that, as a member of Team Transplant, it will cost you $75 to enter the half marathon if you enter by March 1st.)   After March 1st, our entry fee will go up $10 to $85 and will not go any higher than that.
***We do have a limited number of scholarships to help transplant recipients with entry fees.  Please let me know if you need assistance.  We do not want finances to keep you from participating***
How do I enter?
You will need to enter online at http://www.rnrseattle.com/registration.html There will be a place to enter a coupon code. Our coupon code is TEAMTX.  You will need to use this in order to get the discounted rate.  They will provide me with a list of everyone who’s entered using this code so we’ll be able to keep track of everyone who joins as a team member…

What do I need to do to be on the team?
For those of you who submitted registration forms and physician release forms in the fall, you’re good.  If you did not, you need to turn these forms into us before you attend your first practice and before you enter online.  I’ve attached the forms to this message. Only transplant recipients need to turn in the physician release form.
Do I have to pay to join the team?
Since we  have a more limited apparel inventory, we are going to separate the cost of the membership fee (covers expenses for team practices) and the apparel fee (Team Transplant shirts) for those just joining us for the spring event:

  • The membership fee will be $15 and will cover your participation through August when we start training again for the SeattleHalf Marathon.
  • If you would like a Team Transplant shirt (highly recommended though based on availability on a first-come-first-served basis), you will need to pay an additional $15.  We will have additional items such as socks and hats available for purchase at team practices.
  • First-time transplant recipients are exempt from the membership fee and will receive a complementary team shirt.
Where will practices be held?
I’m still finalizing these details.  We hope to include several practices along portions of the race course along with many of our old standby practice routes, including Alki, Green LakeLake Union, and the Lake Sammamish Slough Trail in Redmond.  Directions are available to all practice locations, and the locations for each week’s practice will be listed on your training schedules.
When will we practice?
We will meet on Saturday mornings at 8:00am from March 21st through the weekend of the race.
What other ways can I be involved?
  • If you’d like to help out with water stations or join the committed, dedicated staff at Team Transplant Homeland Security, contact Cathy Seifert at cate@u.washington.edu … Be sure to ask about our benefits package!
  • If you’d like to help out with Team Transplant festivities on race weekend, contact Janette Morantes atmorantes@u.washington.edu
I hope this helps answer your questions. If not, please let me know.  This is going to be a great event, and I don’t want lingering questions holding anyone back!;-)
