UWMC to unveil organ transplant tribute wall April 28 (2009)
In celebration of Organ Donor Awareness month, UW Medical Center will host a reception at 10 a.m. April 28 in the main lobby for the unveiling of our new organ transplant tribute wall. Speakers will include UWMC Executive Director Stephen Zieniewicz and Dr. Jorge Reyes, chief, Division of Transplantation Surgery.
Donate Life Month is a national initiative observed in April to heighten awareness of organ, eye and tissue donation. Last year, more than 25,000 lives were saved through donation and transplantation. Even more lives were enhanced through tissue and cornea donation.
As one of 58 federally-designated nonprofit organ procurement organizations, LifeCenter Northwest facilitates the recovery of organs and tissues in Alaska, Montana, Northern Idaho and Washington. Currently, 100,000 people are on the national transplant waiting list, including 1,600 in our community.
