race day 2008!

by greenglove ~ November 18th, 2008. Filed under: schedule updates, seattle marathon 2009, week in review.
Schedule for Race Day Weekend…
Expo/Packet Pick-Up…You MUST pick up your race packet at the Expo in the Westin on either Friday or Saturday before the race…
  • Friday, Nov. 28th…Expo runs from 11:00am -8:00pm
  • Saturday, Nov. 29th…Expo runs from 11:00am to 7:00pm (packet pick-up goes until 8:00pm)
  • Go to www.seattlemarathon.org for details….
Plan for 5k’ers (and those choosing to cheer them on) on SATURDAY:
  • Meet at Myrtle Edwards Park at 8:30…We will meet at the Uptown Espresso on the corner of Broad and Alaskan Way (I think this may be right at the start so it may be pretty crowded.  If you’re dressed appropriately, we should have no trouble finding each other!;)
    • Packet Pick-up…You can pick up your race packet (number, timing chip, shirt) on Friday at the Expo OR you can do it before the race on Saturday.  If you choose the latter option, I’d recommend getting there by 8:15 to allow for parking and waiting in line!
    • For more information specific to the 5k: http://www.seattlemarathon.org/5K/register.htm
    • Remember the Team Transplant phone number(206) 820-8713!
  • 5K starts at 9:00am—HAVE FUN!!!
Plan for Half Marathoners/Marathoners on SUNDAY:
  • Arrive at Seattle Center and look for parking…6:15-6:30am.
  • Meet at Channel 9 building at 401 Mercer at 6:45 am for team picture and to sign in w/TT Department of Homeland Security.
    • The Channel 9 Building is next to Opera House.  We will be meeting on the Mercer St. side of the building where the main entrance is.
    • Please try to be on time…You’ll need to sign-in with Homeland Security, and we really don’t have that much time before the first race starts.  You will also need to allow time to hit the port-a-potties and leave your things at the clothing drop in Memorial Stadium’s north side tunnel, which is located directly behind the upper stadium seats, as well as warm-up for your race.
    • Having said that, we can’t actually get INTO the Channel 9 building until 7:00am. I’d still recommend getting to the race by 6:45 to avoid traffic (especially if you’re exiting onto Mercer) and to find parking.  You’re free to sit in your car until 7:00am.
    • Don’t forget the Team Transplant phone number(206) 820-8713!! Call us if you have trouble finding us…and be sure to have it with you during the race!
  • Marathon walkers start at 7:15—HAVE FUN, DIANE!!!
  • Half Marathon runners start at 7:30—HAVE FUN!!!
  • Half Marathon walkers start at 7:45.—HAVE FUN!!!
  • Marathon starts at 8:15am.—HAVE FUN, ROLAND!!!

Post-Race Party…6:00pm

Weather
So far…we’re looking at a dry, but probably pretty chilly day. Be sure to wear the appropriate gear (if you have questions, remember…”Dress the Runner” is available for consultations 24hours a day:  http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/whattowear/0,7152,s6-240-325-330-0-0-0-0-0,00.html) and if at all possible, arranges your layers so that your Team Transplant apparel is on the outside!
Bring something warm and dry to put on after the race.  You’ll want it for the drive home…and for hanging out to cheer on your teammates after you finish!
